We're looking for a Sustainability Specialist - Nature to join our Sustainability team here in Aotearoa. Reporting to the Sustainable Sourcing Manager, you will support the delivery of our Woolworths Group 2030 Strategy including programmes of work related to Nature.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working collaboratively to implement Sustainable Sourcing, Animal Welfare, and no-deforestation work programmes.
  • Focusing on Primary Deforestation-linked commodities (soy, paper, pulp, timber, cocoa, palm oil, and beef) and high-impact commodities (tea, coffee, and cane sugar).
  • Supporting Own Brand product development to ensure integration of sustainable sourcing and animal welfare requirements.
  • Reviewing and interpreting supplier information, including audits, certificates, and progress reports, and working with suppliers to correct non-conformances.
  • Providing technical advice and resolving challenges related to sustainable sourcing and animal welfare for internal teams and suppliers.
  • Supporting the automation of Nature processes through the enhanced use of digital technologies and data-driven systems.
  • Maintaining relevant business licensing requirements, such as Rainforest Alliance.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate sustainability credentials into credible, engaging customer communications.

To succeed in this role, you will be a detail-oriented individual, adept at building strong relationships and naturally curious about how digital technology can improve sustainability processes and outcomes. 

  • A degree or equivalent experience specialising in sustainable business, sustainable agriculture, environmental sciences, law, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in sustainable business, responsible sourcing, supply chain, compliance, risk, or auditing with knowledge of global and domestic supply chain issues, particularly in high-risk areas.
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to identify trends and assess sustainability risks and opportunities for Woolworths New Zealand.
  • Exemplary communication skills, with experience managing change and providing technical insights to diverse stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity and emotional intelligence, with the ability to prioritise work under pressure and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
