Welcome to Woolworths 360

We’re the national team of 5,000 bright minds designing, developing and innovating the retail stores of the future across construction, operations, sustainability, data, refrigeration, and everything in between. United by a passion for bringing fresh food and great experiences to our customers every day, our ‘Best in, Better out’ mentality guides our decisions and puts customers at the heart of all we do. Every day we’re reimagining and reinventing our stores, innovating new fulfilment processes, and developing simpler, smarter and more sustainable solutions to future proof our network and fight for a healthier planet.

As the State Construction Manager, this is a heavyweight leadership role suited to a seasoned construction Manager who thrives at the intersection of complex delivery and people-first leadership. You aren't just managing projects, you are steering a large, high-energy engine of 30+ dedicated professionals.

We are looking for a senior leader who can command a room of executives one hour and inspire a motivated, fast-paced team the next. This role requires a sophisticated level of influence and relationship-driven leadership to navigate the nuances of our most critical market.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, mentor, and galvanize a high-energy team of 30+ project managers across NSW/ACT. Your focus is on fostering a culture that is as collaborative and fun as it is hardworking and high-achieving.
  • Take end to end accountability for the successful delivery of 25–30 diverse retail projects annually, ensuring they meet strict safety, quality, and financial targets.
  • Partner with internal property and finance teams to ensure project alignment and resolve complex commercial disputes.
  • Oversee construction and fit out activities with a safety first approach within operational stores, ensuring zero negative impact on customer experience or store sales.
  • Contribute to the long term vision of the Plan & Construct department by identifying efficiency gains and scaling the team to meet evolving business needs.
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing, deeply engaged team of construction experts moving beyond project management to act as a senior influencer and mentor.

What you'll bring

  • A proven track record of leading large, multi-disciplinary teams. You know how to connect with people, build genuine relationships, and maintain high morale in a high-pressure environment.
  • Deep technical knowledge of construction project management specifically within "live" retail environments and complex store renewals.
  • Exceptional skills in engaging senior internal executives and managing critical relationships.
  • Experience managing large scale capital budgets of $200M+ and the ability to navigate complex contract negotiations and risk mitigation.
  • A safety first mindset with a solid understanding of the Building Code of Australia, relevant Australian Standards and a valid Construction White Card

What you’ll experience

  • Our Team Members are at the heart of everything we do and we’re always looking for ways to support your career journey and reward great work:
  • Team discounts across our range of Woolworths Group brands you know and love and a robust rewards program that celebrates and incentivises purpose-driven work.
  • A global business with endless career possibilities around every corner and across every discipline – with valuable exposure to a vast and exciting business network.
  • An attractive remuneration package
  • A range of programs to help you prioritise and manage your wellbeing, including a competitive leave policy and 24/7 access to the Sonder app.

If you're excited to turn today's blue-sky thinking into a better tomorrow for future generations, you'll find yourself supported and enriched in a dynamic, inclusive, and empowering workplace.
