What you’ll experience
The Senior Data Engineer is a critical technical leader within the Category Manager Insights and Tools team, accountable for designing, developing, and continuously improving the foundational data infrastructure that powers our Range & Space analytical capabilities.
This role is pivotal in overseeing complex data systems, including both Microsoft and Google database environments
Ensure operational excellence, data integrity, and strategic alignment for key range, space, and pricing tools.
Provide technical leadership and implementing robust, scalable ETL pipelines, this role directly contributes to transforming backward-looking dashboards into predictive, AI-enabled tools that drive optimal commercial decisions.
What you’ll do
Lead the technical ownership and continuous improvement of key range, space, and pricing tools, including driving methodology changes, implementing bug fixes, and delivering enhancements.
Optimise tool performance and provide best practice guidance on foundational data architecture.
Design, develop, and optimise robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines, integrating multiple complex data sources to ensure a single source of truth for decision-making metrics. To include implementing automation solutions to improve the efficiency and performance of data processes and reports.
Act as the custodian for our GCP usage and charges, ensuring cost-effectiveness as new capabilities are built and older ones are deprecated.
Support tactical initiatives requiring advanced analytics and actively contribute to evolving the toolkit to leverage AI and new technology for step-change data interpretation and decision-making.
Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of data across all managed systems, upholding Group Data Management obligations.
Collaborate with business stakeholders (e.g., Category Managers) to translate complex business requirements into robust technical data solutions.
What you’ll bring
Proven experience within data engineering roles (minimum of 5 years) with a strong focus on building and maintaining large-scale data platforms..
Advanced expertise in SQL, Python, and data pipeline technologies.
Extensive experience with cloud-based data platforms and big data technologies (e.g., Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services like BigQuery, Dataflow, Composer, Pub/Sub; or Microsoft database systems like Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, etc.).
Proven technical leadership in data infrastructure, databases, and platform management across both development and production environments.
Strong understanding of data modeling principles, data governance, and data quality best practices.
Experience in designing and optimising robust ETL/ELT pipelines integrating multiple data sources.
