The Opportunity

The Woolworths Group operates approximately 3,000 trading sites and over 250,000 endpoints across Australia and New Zealand, presenting a unique opportunity to work at a large scale and make a significant impact within the retail sector. This role is within the Stores Infrastructure Engineering (SIE) team, a collaborative and fast-paced environment. As a Infrastructure Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of engineered solutions across our extensive estate. You will play a key role in enhancing our in-store infrastructure, implementing DevOps delivery models to continually improve reliability, security, and the rate of change. We are seeking a skilled engineer who can leverage their infrastructure expertise to drive agility and transform the services we provide to our stores and the ways they operate.

 

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and deploy innovative infrastructure solutions for edge environments, considering network constraints. 
  • Actively contribute to daily engineering tasks within the SIE team. 
  • Understand existing operational processes and key stakeholder requirements.
  •  Evaluate products and tools to assess their suitability against required capabilities. 
  • Develop solutions that are easily supportable and incorporate self-healing capabilities. 
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and procedures for solutions. 
  • Drive innovation by prototyping and demonstrating proof of concepts to gain sponsorship and adoption. 
  • Take ownership of the entire POC lifecycle, including deliverables and timelines. 
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute infrastructure changes following ITIL best practices and the organization’s change management process.
     

What you’ll bring

  • 4+ years of hands-on work experience in infrastructure engineering, software development, and/or system design. 
  • Expert-level knowledge of Linux operating systems, specifically Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration and troubleshooting. 
  • In-depth and practical experience with Red Hat Ansible for configuration management and automation. 
  • Solid understanding of Windows client and Windows Server operating systems administration. 
  • Proven scripting/coding experience using Python (primary) and Bash to automate the deployment of OS, applications, and configurations to edge devices. 
  • Demonstrated experience in infrastructure and service design, including collaborating with vendors and third parties to deliver scalable solutions at scale. 
  • Strong understanding of networking principles and protocols. 
  • Commitment to staying up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure solutions are future-proof, scalable, and flexible. 
  • Disciplined approach to technical documentation creation and review. 
  • Ability to reverse-engineer and understand complex existing solutions. 


Desired Qualifications / Skills

  •  Red Hat Linux Certified Engineer (RHCE). 
  •  Ansible Tower/AWX.
  •  Red Hat OpenShift container platform. 
  •  Windows Server 2022 administration and management. 
  •  Microsoft SCCM (or equivalent endpoint management solutions like Microsoft Intune).
  •  VMware ESXi virtualization platform.
  •  Scripting: PowerShell, PowerCLI. 
  •  Splunk (or equivalent log management and analysis platforms like ELK). 
  •  Understanding of ITIL and Agile methodologies. 
  •  Cisco networking technologies. 
  •  CCTV cameras and Video Management Systems (VMS).
