Head of Commercial - Everyday
What you’ll do
We are seeking an established, Commercial Retail leader to drive the three-year ambition for our ‘Everyday’ business to be a destination!
This category's success is paramount to cementing our position as the essential value retailer for every Australian family. The focus of the role is clear: to reimagine the future of our Everyday offer (spanning Range, Merchandising, and Format) and establish it as a genuine customer destination that delivers significant, accelerated growth in sales, margin, and customer engagement, fully aligned with the broader Woolworths Group strategy.
As a transformational Head of Commercial, you will own this strategic roadmap. Your focus will be on delivering a distinctive, customer-led product offering, overseeing the end-to-end buying process from trend identification to profitable launch. This includes articulating the three-year supplier strategy, developing the promotional trading strategy, evolving our omnichannel trading calendar, and simplifying core commercial processes while partnering with global national brands and key FMCG partners.
With solid commercial acumen you are able to assess the financial impact of purchasing decisions, understand profit drivers, manage budgets, and use financial data to guide long-term buying strategies that contribute to profitability and minimize losses.
You have a passion for coaching and mentoring your team members with a vision of continuous improvement building the team of the future with clear development and succession plans in place. You will uplift the teams skills in strategic purchasing decisions, analyzing product performance, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver commercial goals and profitability
Crucially, you will provide critical thought and practical leadership across the business and build strategic value-unlocking partnerships—both within the Woolworths Group (e.g., Everyday Rewards) and with our key suppliers.
What you’ll bring
This is a senior role that calls for a visionary and empathetic leader who has strong interpersonal skills, with prior experience in guiding a successful, high-volume retail business of significant scale, ideally within the general merchandise or discount department sectors. Success requires a proven track record of shaping and growing a Commercial buying function (particularly national brands) within a multi-billion dollar environment. As well as this, you’ll also demonstrate exceptional relationship-building skills for supplier negotiation, with a proven ability to forge strategic partnerships with national brands across different categories. Finally, you must excel at holistic, end-to-end strategic planning and execution, driving collaborative success across all commercial levers to achieve significant, sustained growth.
