Finance Information Steward

  • Permanent role

  • Critical role in the transformation of how Woolworths manages our organisational finance data


The Opportunity

The purpose of the Finance Information Steward role is to uphold the organisation's financial data governance framework, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. This role will define and enforce data standards, manage data quality and act as a key liaison between finance and IT to protect the integrity of critical financial information.

This key project role assists the Finance BU Data Management Lead in establishing an effective Data Management capability for Woolworths Finance. It also supports the development of data management capabilities within the Finance Systems Transformation program.


What you'll do

The Finance Information Steward plays a pivotal role in maintaining the health and usability of financial data and acts as a guardian of financial information, ensuring it is accurate, reliable and compliant with organisational and regulatory requirements.

You will:

  • Ensure data accuracy, completeness and consistency through regular checks and corrections and identify and resolve data anomalies and errors.
  • Establish and monitor data quality metrics and implement processes to continuously improve data quality.
  • Implement and enforce data governance policies and standards and ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, SOX)
  • Manage data access controls and permissions, ensuring data security and privacy
  • Oversee the data life cycle from creation to archiving or deletion
  • Investigate and resolve data related issues
  • Work with key stakeholders including finance, IT, and other departments to ensure data alignment and articulately communicate data governance policies and standards
  • Provide training, support and guidance on data management best practices and promote data awareness and literacy
  • Support the creation and maintenance of data asset documentation and ensure this is effectively published within Collibra


What you'll bring

In this role, you will work with multiple business groups, building and maintaining strong relationships. You will use your ability to support a diverse set of stakeholder groups to effectively manage their data requirements, and contribute to our goals of safe and trusted data.

You will have:

  • 5+ years experience working in a variety of Data related roles, ideally within a Finance function
  • Proven experience working with financial data and a strong understanding of financial reporting and processes
  • Experience in implementing and enforcing data governance policies and ensuring data compliance
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex data issues
  • Strong knowledge of data quality management principles
  • Experience in data validation, cleansing and metadata management
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining strong, collaborative working relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to suit a diverse audience
