The Greenhouse Collective is the home team for creatives, designers, and production-focused craftspeople within the Woolworths Group. As part of the Brand and Marketing team, we are a center of creative excellence, powered by a collective of internal team members and agency partners who support the Woolworths Group Brand & Marketing practitioners in applying their craft and capabilities to solve and achieve goals.
The Opportunity
This senior role within the Greenhouse Collective is responsible for driving the overarching editorial vision, audience growth, brand innovation, and commercial success of Fresh Ideas Magazine and its associated digital content platforms.
You will lead the editorial design transformation of the magazine, ensuring it powerfully reflects the Woolworths brand, deeply engages its target audience, and critically, serves as an invaluable asset for Cartology by creating compelling advertorial and integration opportunities for its clients.
This involves developing and executing a data-driven content strategy, fostering creativity and collaboration within a cross-functional team, adeptly navigating a highly matrixed organization to align stakeholders, and shaping the magazine's evolution as a key content-commerce focused media asset. Your leadership will be crucial in balancing high editorial standards with strong commercial outcomes, solidifying Fresh Ideas as a leading voice in its category.
What you’ll do
- Develop and execute a comprehensive, audience-first content strategy for Fresh Ideas Magazine (print and digital expressions) that drives readership, engagement, and aligns with Woolworths Group strategy and brand objectives.
- Lead the editorial team (food editors, sub-editors, writers, art directors & designers, production team) to deliver high-quality, inspiring, and relevant content, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Champion the editorial design transformation of Fresh Ideas, working with creative leads to evolve the visual language and ensure it meets both WW brand standards and modern publishing best practices.
- Partner strategically with Cartology to drive commercial success, by identifying and developing innovative advertorial concepts, sponsored content opportunities, and richer brand integration formats that deliver value for clients while maintaining editorial integrity.
- Act with a publisher mindset to curate, develop, and maintain the Fresh Ideas content calendar, leveraging data, SEO, Google Trends, social insights, and customer feedback to optimize content performance and audience acquisition.
What you’ll bring
- Extensive (e.g., 10+ years) relevant experience in magazine and/or digital media in Australia, with a proven track record in an editorial leadership role.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with experience managing and inspiring cross-functional creative teams (editors, designers, etc.).
- Demonstrated history in creating, editing, or commissioning high-quality omnichannel journalism and lifestyle content.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work positively and effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Excellent strategic thinking skills, with the ability to develop a long-term vision for a publication while ensuring alignment with broader business objectives (Woolworths brand and Cartology).
