What you’ll do

This role is part of the broader wiq team and will be embedded in the Woolworths eCommerce domain supporting our 'Future Networks' team - driving how we evolve to support our customers in new ways over the coming decades.

This role will leverage demand data, understand our operations, and pair the two to drive smart solutions for how we operate in this group. Reporting to the Data Science Manager and working closely with the senior members in the team, you will be responsible for autonomously building products focused around optimisation and/or forecasting.


  • Understand how the business works, the considerations of customer, warehousing, replenishment, and how to achieve an effective balance driving operational savings and explore new demand opportunities.
  • Generate meaningful and valuable solutioning in collaboration with other data scientists and the business for sustainable automation while comfortably developing and maintaining in a production code setting - always looking toward reproducibility and quality.
  • Work pragmatically to drive a strategic view while continuously delivering value along a roadmap to better support our operations teams' needs.

 

What you’ll bring


We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist, who can bring a test and learn mindset, with an ability to think clearly about the underlying business problems and to consultatively recommend data-driven approaches to solving them.


  • Background in Statistics or experience in experimental design and research methodologies with a knowledge of hypothesis testing and associated statistical techniques.
  • Proven experience in hands-on data science work (developing models, feature engineering)
  • High level of proficiency with Python and SQL (advanced level) through to production, with strong CI/CD principles
  • Demonstrable experience working with cloud platforms and associated native tools: e.g. Google Cloud Platform
  • The ability to interact and influence with a wide variety of stakeholders internally and externally
  • Experience with optimisation (Operations Research) and/or time series forecasting
  • Confidence presenting accurate results to senior leaders and driving change
