The opportunity


Due to a parental leave cover we have a unique opportunity for an Assistant designer to support our close-knit Clothing team on a 9 month FTC opportunity.


The successful candidate will primarily support the Designer on range creation, converting designs into Technical Packs. You will bring the BIG W customer offer to life, through supporting the design and development of value driven high volume commercial product ranges that differentiate BIG W and deliver on our purpose through real value, real solutions and real care.


What you’ll do


Customer, Data and Insights

  • Demonstrate strong understanding of customer profiles, data and analytics to support the creation and delivery of cohesive ranges to drive sales conversion.

Design & Development

  • Support the design and development of product ranges for a high-volume value retailer by applying technical and design expertise, to optimise cost led product ranges that align with customer profiles, meet quality standards, and deliver to commercial targets. 

Quality, Fit & Legal

  • Collaborate with Fit, Quality and legal teams to manage risk, ensure design intent and fit consistency, to deliver ranges that meet all safety, quality, legal and responsible sourcing requirements.

Critical Path Management

  • Work efficiently within structured processes to meet critical path milestones, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of tech packs and range boards. Effectively manage a high-volume workload with strong attention to detail and prioritisation


What you’ll bring


  • Formal qualification in clothing Design / Product Design.
  • 2+ years in a similar role for a clothing retailer.
  • Demonstrate technical accuracy and understanding of basic garment construction and fabrics, and how to apply this knowledge to different styles.
  • Previous accountability supporting the design of a medium volume and medium complexity of  options. 
  • Strong stakeholder management and excellent communication skills to partner with various stakeholders.
  • Proactive solution focused mindset with ability to problem solve.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders across a broad skill base.
  • Strong communication skill written and verbal with with high attention to detail.
