The Opportunity

Join a multi-disciplinary team of data science, data analytics and finance professionals, partnering with the Woolworths 360 retail platform business on major strategic projects (including New and Renewal store programs)., Your work will contribute towards delivering the best customer experience through evolving, tailored formats, and change the future of retail across our banners including Woolworths Supermarkets, Metro and Big W.

The purpose of this role is to lead our data transformation efforts, designing, developing, maintaining and evolving the various data models that power our analytics and reporting at overall program and individual store level, enabling the team to identify themes and key trends and generate actionable insights that can be acted upon by the 360 team and the business

What you’ll do

  • Design and Optimize Data Solutions: Develop, optimize, and automate complex SQL transformations and data models in Google BigQuery.
  • Translate Business Needs: Collaborate with stakeholders to translate data requirements into efficient data structures and evolve models as needed.
  • Build and Maintain Data Pipelines: Implement and maintain robust data pipelines to transform raw data into analytics-ready datasets.
  • Manage GCP Environment: Oversee the team's Google Cloud Platform project, ensuring functionality, access, performance, and billing optimization.
  • Ensure Data Integrity: Implement rigorous testing and monitoring to guarantee data quality, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Champion Best Practices: Advocate for and apply data and engineering best practices, including documentation, modularity, and version control.

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum 3 years in an Analytics Engineer, Data Engineer, or highly technical Data Analyst role.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Cloud Data Warehousing: Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform / BigQuery (preferred) or similar modern cloud data warehouses.
  • Data Transformation: Proficient with data transformation tools and advanced SQL for data model development and optimization.
  • Agile & Problem-Solving: Demonstrated success in Agile environments, navigating ambiguity, and resolving complex problems.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders.
