As one of the largest Finance functions in Corporate Australia we provide opportunities across Corporate Finance, Shared Services, Commercial Finance, Capital Management, Financial Control, Operations Finance, Project Finance, M&A and Strategy and Planning.

The Opportunity


We have a 12 month fixed term contract opportunity for an Accountant to join our Finance Shared Service team reporting into the Accounting Manager.


This role partners with New Zealand stakeholders from NZ Distribution center (DC) Business Partners, Commercial Managers to Financial Controllers. The role is focused on inventory and the costs to the DC and getting stock to the stores. 


What you’ll do

 

  • Own the end-to-end accounting process, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks, required journal entries, and adjustments by set deadlines.
  • Support financial reporting by providing timely and insightful Profit & Loss results and Balance Sheet insights to finance teams and business partners.
  • Take full ownership of the quality and timeliness of Balance Sheet reconciliations, adhering to guidelines.
  • Manage stakeholder relations by professionally and promptly resolving business partner queries and actively participating in engagement sessions to collaborate on improvements.
  • Assist with the half-yearly preparation of notes to the Woolworths Financial Statements, meeting all soft and hard close deliverables and timelines.
  • Support a wide variety of process improvement initiatives and strategies, including performing User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system changes.
  • Drive initiatives and strategies for continual improvement of processes in area of responsibility - including where impacts or changes may be required across other teams.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the team and promote a consistent "way of working" across the team.

 

What you’ll bring


  • You will have a finance related degree with a CA or CPA qualification (or studying towards)
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, exposure in retail/large corporate will be advantageous
  • Expertise in reconciling complex accounts, including bank statements, general ledger accounts, and intercompany transactions.
  • Understanding and practical application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Strong experience using financial systems in a commercial environment e.g. Google Suite, SAP, BPC, GCP and Excel
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data, identify trends, and provide insights for decision-making.
  • Curiosity and confidence to challenge processes and ways of thinking.
  • Strong business partnering skills.
