What you'll do | Hei mahi

As a key member of both the Woolworths NZ Executive Team and the Group Finance Executive Team, the Director Finance, Strategy & Performance shapes the strategic direction of the NZ business and leads the financial agenda that underpins long-term, sustainable performance.

You will be accountable for the Finance, Strategy, Transformation, and WiQ (Data & Analytics) teams in New Zealand, ensuring these functions operate as a cohesive, high-impact group that drives clarity, discipline, insight, and future-focused decision-making across the business.

Working closely with the MD NZ and Group functions across Australia, you will be responsible for defining and representing the New Zealand business’s strategic aspirations, progress, and performance across customer, commercial, and financial outcomes.

You will lead the Finance function and establish the rhythms that drive accountability and performance — including an integrated planning and performance cycle that spans the 3-year AOP, strategic priorities, quarterly delivery cycles, and weekly and monthly business reviews. Your leadership will ensure strong financial outcomes while enabling sound, future-focused decisions that deliver profitable growth.

Beyond financial stewardship, you will drive the development of the NZ strategy and ensure alignment with Group direction and the needs of the NZ market. You will partner with Directors and GMs to translate strategic ambition into clear priorities and executable plans, guiding teams to focus on outcomes and deliver with pace.

Success in this role requires strong influence, comfort in matrixed environments, and the ability to build deep, trusted partnerships across Group Finance, Strategy, Transformation and WiQ — bringing the best of the Group to the NZ business and creating shared value.

You are a seasoned finance and strategy executive with the depth, judgement, and enterprise mindset to influence one of New Zealand’s largest organisations. You bring a combination of strategic clarity, commercial discipline, and people leadership, enabling you to drive performance today while shaping the foundations for long term, sustainable growth.

• Significant experience leading Finance and Strategy functions in large, complex organisations.

• Proven leadership of sizable teams, with accountability for P&L performance, capability uplift, and delivering commercial outcomes.

• Strong strategic thinker with a customer centric lens and the ability to balance customer, commercial, and operational priorities across multiple time horizons.

• Demonstrated success leading transformation at scale within matrixed environments, delivering results through influence and collaboration.

• Exceptional stakeholder leadership, able to align diverse senior leaders, manage competing needs, and drive momentum across an enterprise agenda.

• Skilled at setting strategic priorities, enabling disciplined execution, and maintaining focus in ambiguity.

• A compelling change leader who can articulate a clear vision, build buy-in, and inspire readiness across teams.

• Deep understanding of retail or consumer-facing businesses

• Curious, data literate, and energised by the opportunity to unlock value through insight, analytics, and improved decision-making.
