The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality Assurance Engineer to join our dynamic team at W Digital. In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, building, and improving our complex digital systems.
What you’ll do
- Actively participate in cross-functional Agile ceremonies to understand backend architecture and business requirements, ensuring testing objectives align with system design.
- Design and perform manual and automated testing across APIs and databases (SQL and NoSQL) to ensure functional reliability.
- Validate complex data flows across source and target systems, specifically monitoring data consistency between databases, Pub/Sub messaging, and downstream consumers.
- Hands-on validation of cloud-native environments (GCP preferred), including testing services like Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, and BigQuery.
- Develop and maintain robust automation frameworks using Python, Go, or Java to streamline integration and regression testing suites.
- Identify and document defects via clear Jira bug reports, collaborate with developers for rapid resolution, and support UAT and production validation.
- You’ll work hand-in-hand with developers, SREs, and architects, embedding quality and security into the very fabric of our development lifecycle.
What You’ll Bring
- Over 5 years of experience testing complex backend systems, including microservices architectures and event-driven environments (Pub/Sub, message queues).
- Advanced proficiency in developing API and database automation frameworks using Python to increase regression coverage and reduce manual overhead.
- Strong SQL skills with a focus on validating data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across cloud services and integrated workflows.
- Ability to independently navigate technical systems to extract data and logs, identifying how failures propagate through microservices to resolve issues.
- Deep understanding of modern QA practices, featuring structured defect reporting, proactive collaboration with BAs/developers, and participation in the full SDLC.
- Proven ability to remain resilient amid changing requirements, shifting focus as needed to support team delivery under tight timelines.
What you’ll Experience
- Team Discounts - Team discounts across our range of Woolworths Group brands you know and love and a robust rewards program that celebrates and incentivises purpose-driven work.
- 12 weeks paid parental leave for primary caregivers. Woolworths Group will also continue to pay superannuation for up to 12 months (subject to relevant caps) while the Team Member is on parental leave (paid or unpaid).
- 4 weeks paid leave for secondary caregivers
