We're looking for a passionate Senior Data Scientist to join our dynamic team and drive the next wave of innovation in advanced analytics and AI. Our work spans the entire Woolworths business—from customer loyalty and personalisation to eCommerce, store operations, supply chain, ranging, and pricing.

What you'll do

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be a key player in developing and deploying sophisticated data science solutions that deliver significant business impact. You'll work on a variety of exciting use cases, from personalisation and loyalty to supply chain optimisation and generative AI applications. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the end-to-end delivery of data science projects, from ideation to deployment, while developing cutting-edge methodologies that combine traditional analytics with AI-powered insights.

  • Applying your expertise in advanced analytics and machine learning to solve complex business problems, utilising techniques such as XGBoost, causal uplift modeling, GLMs, clustering, optimisation, reinforcement learning and deep learning.

  • Establishing and maintaining technical standards, coding best practices, and quality assurance processes to ensure reproducible, scalable, and production-ready analytical solutions.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders, to design, implement, and embed data-driven solutions.

  • Acting as a thought leader, people leader and mentor to junior data scientists, promoting best practices and fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

  • Communicating complex technical concepts and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, influencing decision-making at all levels of the organisation.

What you'll bring

We're looking for a creative and driven individual with a strong technical background and a passion for solving real-world problems. 

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in a data science role, with a proven track record of delivering impactful data science solutions.

  • Strong technical expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and experimental design, with proficiency in advanced analytics tools and platforms, e.g. Python, VertexAI, SQL.

  • A commercial mindset and the ability to translate data insights into actionable business strategies.

  • Experience working in Agile and MLOps environments, with strong proficiency in collaborative development practices including Jira for project planning, git for version control, and code review processes.

  • Academic background: Tertiary qualifications in engineering, mathematics, actuarial studies, statistics, physics, or a related discipline.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to prepare compelling presentations that translate complex technical concepts, methodologies, and outcomes into actionable insights for diverse audiences across the organisation.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
