Designer - Big W (6 month contract)

This role is responsible for leading the Design function in 6 month project within our Big W Clothing Own Brand.

• Research and development of garment shapes across our clothing portfolio
• Define most commercial and fit for purpose garment shapes that meet our customer needs
• Partner with the Fit & Construction team to align to the BIG W fit standards, working with E2E teams to drive product ranges our customers can trust BIG W fit, quality and value.

What you’ll do

• Partner with the Product Design team to create ranges that are informed by trend, customer insights, data and analytics, aligned to strategic delivery.

• This role is responsible for translating the overall design vision into garment blocks.

• Collaborating with stakeholders, you will be responsible for the complete design process, ensuring right style, right price , consistent fit and sizing.

• Test and trial new shapes/construction technique finishes by briefing offshore suppliers to submit development samples; Interpreting data to design customer led solutions

• Collaborate with BIG W Compliance and Quality team on Standards, sizing, testing and other requirements to ensure a safe and compliant product

• Create Technical Packs within PLMS; including Garment Construction page, Measurement image, Product specification sheet. Ensure all products are made in line with BIG W standards meeting required safety, compliance standards and regulations.

What you’ll bring

• Formal qualification in Fashion Design, with experience in clothing product development, garment construction.

• Previous experience in Womenswear, Menswear and/or Kidswear within a high volume large retail organisation high advantageous 

• Previous experience in creating a design and technical brief to drive product creation; informed by trend, led by customer insights, data and analytics

• Garment construction knowledge including pattern making and understanding of grading to drive product fit simplification

• Excellent stakeholder management skills to work cross functionally across various internal teams and external partners

• Previous experience with 3D Digital tools such as Clo, Optitex, Browzwear would be highly regarded
