The Employment Relations stream sits within the People Team and is responsible for providing strategic advice, guidance and support on employment relations matters that affect the Woolworths New Zealand Group as a whole, business units or team member cohorts.

As our Employment Relations Specialist, support the end-to-end management of ER cases across all divisions of Woolworths NZ Limited, ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation. Coaching people leaders, maintaining data integrity in case management systems, staying updated on policies and legislation, providing high-quality ER advice, and collaborating with various teams to enhance ER knowledge, this role will see you further develop your ER skills in a fast-moving, large organisation. You will also support the Employment Relations Lead with personal grievance responses, mediation statements and undertake project work such as developing and delivering workshops. There may also be some travel required ad hoc for this role.

In this 12-month fixed-term contract, you will:

  • Lead Employment Relations (ER) case management for set divisions across the Woolworths NZ business

  • Coach People Leaders to resolve enquiries efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with NZ legislation

  • Provide high-quality, accurate ER advice and timely resolution of cases while maintaining data integrity

  • Collaborate with the People team to enhance ER knowledge and drive continuous service improvement

This 12-month fixed-term contract involves partnering closely with leaders across our business. To be successful, your experience and skills should reflect:

  • Experience in a similar ER-driven role, with an understanding of employment laws and employment relations issues

  • Possessing excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) to build trust and translate complex issues for diverse audiences

  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, translating complex data into clear, actionable business insights

  • Demonstrating sound judgement and commercial awareness, with high attention to detail and integrity in decision-making

  • Expert knowledge of employment legislation and the ability to influence stakeholders on compliance and workplace concerns

  • A proven ability to self-manage, prioritise work, and coach leaders in people processes with care and empathy
